I refer to the number of students who are being penalised for not having been provided sufficient money to catch public transport to and from school, and ask -
(1) How many infringement notices were issued for fare evasion in 2009?
(2) How many of these were issued to young people under the age of 18?
(3) How many infringement notices issued for fare evasion in 2009 were issued to students travelling to or from school?

The Western Australian Government provides significant concession for students as they travel to and from school (50 cent fare). However, it is a parental responsiblity to ensure that students are provided sufficient moneys to catch public transport.
(1) 63,367 infringements were issued for fare evasion related offences in the 2009 calendar year. This represents 0.1% of all fare paying boardings.
(2) 20,465 infringements were issued to young people under the age of 18 for fare evasion related offences in the 2009 calendar year. This represents 0.3% of all student fare paying boardings.
(3) Information on whether students are travelling to or from school is not recorded by the Public Transport Authority for infringement related purposes. However, a total of 744 infringements were issued for fare evasion to persons under the age of 18 who did not have a ticket or did not have the correct student concession entitlement between the hours of 07:00am to 10:00am and a further 3,720 infringements were issued between the hours of 3:00pm to 6:00pm on the same basis in the 2009 calendar year.
