I refer to the Main Roads Department concept plan for Guildford Road, Maylands, between Ninth Avenue and Caledonian Avenue. (1) Has the department received comments on this concept plan from the owners of the Maylands Park Shopping Centre that proposes alternatives to the MRD concept plan? (2) Will the responsible MRD officer meet with representatives of the Maylands Park Shopping Centre to discuss the alternative proposals that are designed to ensure the long-term safety benefits on Guildford Road? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The community consultation process for the concept plan formally commenced on 2 April 2005 with a meeting with local residents. The consultation process is expected to run for six weeks. A meeting with business owners was planned for 4 April 2005. Notwithstanding this, a Main Roads officer was in contact with the Maylands shopping centre owner and the City of Bayswater earlier this week - this answer is dated 31 March - to discuss revised parking options. Feedback from these discussions has been positive and it is intended to hold further discussions in the coming week. All feedback from the community and business owners will be assessed and accommodated where possible in the final design of this project aimed at improving safety on this section of Guildford Road. Given the date of this answer, if the member would like an update I am happy to provide that.
