PILBARA
UNDERGROUND POWER PROJECT
632. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Back to the question I
actually asked: considering the extraordinary bills being imposed on small
businesses, especially not-for-profit organisations, in the Pilbara, will the
Premier now ensure that those bills are reviewed and made more fair; and will
he meet with the people involved?

I go to the Pilbara several times a
year. The bills have been issued through Horizon Power. The people of the
Pilbara wanted underground power. Make no mistake about that—they
wanted underground power.
Mr
M. McGowan : Will you make sure that they are properly reviewed?
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : We are not going to reduce their bills artificially, because
we are responsible in government.
Several members interjected.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : It is expensive.
Ms
M.M. Quirk interjected.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : I do not think the member for Girrawheen should be talking in
this Parliament.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Order! Through the Chair, Premier.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
This government has an absolutely outstanding record in regional development.
Opposition members do not even go out into the country areas, because no-one
knows who they are. People have never heard of them. Why did the opposition
pull out of the Vasse by-election? Because no-one there knows who the Labor
Party is, and they do not even know who the Leader of the Opposition is. That
is the reason the Labor Party pulled out. It would have come fourth. The state
opposition comes in a close fourth in the field of four! That would have been
the result. Do not talk about the country to us.
