RIVERTON TRUCK BAN
I refer to the so-called “Riverton electorate truck ban” announced just before the 2005 general election. (1) Is it true that the Commissioner of Main Roads has given advice or opinion to the government about the merits or practicalities of the ban? (2) Will the minister table that advice or opinion; and, if not why not? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The proposal to restrict trucks on Leach Highway and South Street east of Kwinana Freeway was discussed by officers of the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure’s staff and senior Main Roads officers in February 2005. These discussions were with regard to the legal requirements and minor road improvements necessary to implement the truck restriction. The proposal takes advantage of the completion of a new high standard truck route connecting to the freeway - Roe Highway - and increased capacity on Kwinana Freeway following the commencement of the Perth-Mandurah railway operations. (2) Not applicable.
