REGISTRY OF BIRTHS,
DEATHS AND MARRIAGES — ADOPTION ACT
383. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the minister representing the
Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the response to my
question without notice 284, which revealed that the department has now, more
than a decade since the recommendation was made, commenced work on former
forced adoption policies and practices.
(1) What is the
date of the most recent briefing note or similar document the department has
provided to the minister on this matter?
(2) Further to (1), will the
minister table that document?
(3) If no to (2),
will the minister undertake to comply with section 82 of the Financial
Management Act 2006?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following response has been provided by the Minister for
Child Protection.
(1)–(3) The
Department of Communities advises that work has commenced. As the honourable
member is aware, a parliamentary inquiry into historical forced adoption
practices is underway. More time is required to identify and review any
relevant briefing notes. This will be done as soon as practicable and the
member will be advised accordingly.
