HOUSING — MACRO REALTY DEVELOPMENTS —
MEMBER FOR PILBARA
793. Mr F.M. LOGAN to the Minister for
Housing.
I refer to the minister's
longstanding relationship with Macro Realty Developments and Veronica
Macpherson and her claim that ''We have been successful in lobbying for
a mining camp closure'' with reference to Kurra village.
(1) Did Veronica
Macpherson raise directly with the member for Pilbara the need to close Kurra
camp?
(2) What other
support has he given this company, which today had its Australian financial
services licence cancelled by the Australian Securities and Investments
Commission?
(3) Has not his
regular and continuing association with Macro Realty Developments, until raised
by the opposition, given investors the impression that his government has
supported that company's ventures?

AnswerView source ↗

(1)–(3) No.
My contact with that company has not done that. My contact with Macro Realty
was to explain to it the government's policy for Pilbara Cities. I made
that very clear in two hours of debate yesterday and in response to three
previous questions. I will continue to do that.
Mr
F.M. Logan interjected.
The
SPEAKER : That is enough.
Mr
B.J. GRYLLS : On the weekend I am sure I will continue to talk to people
about the Pilbara and what the government is doing to invest in the Pilbara and
to grow it. If the opposition continues to perpetuate a mistruth that I have
extensive linkages with Macro Realty—I do not. I do not have extensive
involvement with Macro Realty. In fact, as I said in the debate yesterday, the
most extensive involvement with that company was from the Labor candidate for
the Pilbara at the last election, who, in the last three months, signed a contract
of sponsorship with that company for the town of Port Hedland. The member has
said nothing about that because he has nothing on this issue.
Mr
F.M. Logan interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Cockburn!
Mr
B.J. GRYLLS : His question continues to prove that the Labor Party has
nothing to talk about. It has spent the week trying to prosecute an argument
against building a new road that will solve congestion and create jobs and that
has been called on by the public. The Labor Party has no policy on anything but
to oppose that. It has a jobs plan that will create a job for only one person
at ZAP Copy to print it, but it is opposing a jobs plan to build a substantial
new piece of road infrastructure and has failed to prosecute that argument this
week. The opposition talks about economic diversification and innovation for
the economy and it opposes genetic modification. If the member for Cockburn is
concerned about the real estate market in the Pilbara and about property prices
in the Pilbara, why does he not talk about a policy about the Pilbara property
market? As I pointed out yesterday, and he does not like it —
Mr
D.A. Templeman interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Mandurah!
Mr
B.J. GRYLLS : — because his policy in the lead-up to the last
election was exactly the same as the Liberal–National government's
policy but the only person in this little exchange who has been telling
mistruths —
Mr
D.A. Templeman interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Mandurah, I call to you order for the first time. That is enough.
Mr
B.J. GRYLLS : The only person happy to peddle mistruths in this debate is
the member for Cockburn, who, at the last election campaign, happily told the
people of the Pilbara that his party would invest in housing affordability, but
clearly did not intend to do so, and he has spent the last three years campaigning
against that, when we have delivered the outcome.
Mr
P.B. Watson interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Albany! I call you to order for the second time.
Mr
B.J. GRYLLS : I have answered those questions over a two-hour debate in the
Parliament. The member for Cockburn's notion of trying to create a link
that does not exist has failed and all he has to talk about in the housing
policy field is something that he has made up.
