The Minister denies stating the other Minister went to Nannup.

I refer the minister to two facts. The first is the minister’s statement to the Timber Communities Australia that the lead minister on forestry policy is the Minister for the Environment and Heritage. The second is that the Minister for the Environment and Heritage went to Nannup to notify about the allocation of resource for Nannup. Can the minister tell me how he reconciles these events with the fact that under the legislation, those responsibilities belong to the Minister for Forestry and Fisheries and not to the Minister for the Environment and Heritage? Hon KIM CHANCE

Hon Peter Foss seems to misunderstand the situation. He said that I made a statement that the Minister for the Environment and Heritage went to Nannup to advise of the allocation of the resource. I do not believe that that was the case; I am not sure. Hon Peter Foss: Did you think you had gone? Hon KIM CHANCE: I did not say that the Minister for the Environment and Heritage went to Nannup. Hon Peter Foss: No, you did not say it, you implied it. Hon KIM CHANCE: Hon Peter Foss’s question implied that. Hon Peter Foss: The first part was what you said, the second part was fact. Hon KIM CHANCE: I think the member needs to read his question. He will find that he implied that I said the Minister for the Environment and Heritage went to Nannup. I am not sure who went to Nannup to make that announcement. Hon Peter Foss: It certainly wasn’t you, was it? Hon KIM CHANCE: It was not me. I have, certainly, been to Nannup and I have spoken to workers on-site. I have also spoken to the management of both M&B Sales Pty Ltd and Sotico on the matter of the handover, and I visited Nannup close to the time of the handover.
