I refer to the Wallatin/O’Brien Catchment Demonstration Initiative and the need for monitoring of the 15 demonstration projects over the next ten years, and ask:
(a) has the Treasurer received a request for funding for monitoring of the demonstration projects; and
(i) if so, who made the request and what was the Treasurer’s response; and
(b) given the significant State Government investment into this and similar projects, would the Treasurer be willing to commit funding to ensure the monitoring necessary to evaluate the initiative is undertaken; and
(i) if not, why not?

(a) No.
(i) Not applicable.
(b) Not at this stage.
(i) A report into Catchment Demonstration Initiatives (CDI), including the Wallatin/O'Brien CDI project, has been commissioned by the Department of Agriculture and FoodWA. It is due to be completed by the end of October 2010. Once delivered to government, the State Natural Resource Management (NRM) Office and NRM agencies will consider the report. This will include consideration of a commitment of funds, including from within current budget allocations, to the ongoing monitoring of CDI projects.
