With regard to a letter written on 28 January 2004 by the Save Our Sunset Coastal Action Group requesting the Premier to meet with it, I ask - (1) Did the Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet respond on behalf of the Premier on 5 February 2004, declining to meet with members of the Save Our Sunset Coastal Action Group? (2) Is the Premier concerned about strong public opposition to more high-rise development at Scarborough? (3) If yes to (2), will the Premier agree to meet with representatives of the Save Our Sunset Coastal Action Group? (4) If yes to (3), when? (5) If no to (3), why not? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet advised the convenor of the group that, although the Premier was unable to meet with him, the matters raised were being examined and a response would be forwarded as soon as possible.  The Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier subsequently responded to the convenor of the group on behalf of the Premier. (2)-(5) The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure has responsibility for determining certain matters with regard to the Scarborough environs area strategy, and she has corresponded with the group on this issue.  The minister and the Western Australian Planning Commission have undertaken to consider the views of the group and other interested parties when determining any such matters.
