156. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to contamination issues at
the old Bunbury fire station at 38 Forrest Avenue in South Bunbury.
(1) Can the
minister advise whether there are concerns regarding chemical contamination at
the old Bunbury fire station?
(2) If yes, what
are the specific concerns?
(3) Is the minister confident there is no risk to
adjacent residential properties from the old Bunbury fire station?
(4) Has the
Department of Fire and Emergency Services considered options for the future of
the old Bunbury fire station; and, if so, what are they?

a result of a preliminary site investigation, the old Bunbury fire station has
been classified as possibly contaminated–investigation required.
(3) A voluntary auditor's report was prepared
in May 2020 and several adjacent sites have since been classified as possibly contaminated–investigation
required. These property owners were provided with written advice of the
potential contamination.
(4) The old
Bunbury fire station is surplus to DFES requirements. The site is listed for
disposal on the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage disposal portal.
