Burswood Park motorplex
583. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Has the business case for the racetrack been completed?

AnswerView source ↗

I just answered
that; I said it is being finalised. Clearly, the Leader of the Opposition, as
usual, is listening to himself, not others. Many Western Australians are
excited about the prospect of activating that part of Burswood peninsula.
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition!
Mr Roger Cook: Many people in Western Australia are
excited about activating that part of Burswood peninsula because it will mean
opportunities for cycling events and it will have a 12,000-seat outdoor
entertainment—
Mr Basil Zempilas: I thought it was 20,000.
Mr Roger Cook: It will be tens of thousands of people
in an outdoor entertainment auditorium. There will be an opportunity for a
once-a-year marquee motorsport event, and it will provide the opportunity to
activate a whole range of community activities on that area. Quite frankly, I
think the other side has just run out of ideas.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt!
Mr Roger Cook: They have got no ideas, so all they can—
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt! This is your
question from your opposition. Let the Premier respond without your
interjections.
Mr Roger Cook: This will be an important opportunity
to activate a foreshore development that will involve cyclists, walkers and
runners, and, of course, people who enjoy outdoor entertainment will have a
wonderful opportunity to be part of that space. We have talked about a once-a-year
marquee motorsport event.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members of the Opposition! Leader of the
Opposition, you have asked the question. Show some respect and listen to the
answer.
Mr Roger Cook: I know that members opposite are opposed
to—
Ms Sandra Brewer interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Cottesloe, I am calling you
for the first time.
Mr David Michael: Point of order!
The Speaker: It is okay, you do not need to, Leader of
the House. Carry on, Premier.
Mr Roger Cook: We all know that empty vessels make the
most noise, and those opposite are as empty as they have ever been!
The Speaker: Before I give the call to the member for
Cockburn, members of the opposition are doing far too much interjecting
already. That was the first question, and it has taken the best part of 10 minutes
to get through it. It will be a very short question time if you keep carrying
on that way.
