Hon George Cash questions the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of using Kununurra-based planes for medical services and RFDS transport when Wyndham-based planes are reportedly cheaper and closer. (1) Why do medical practitioners employed or contracted to the Health Department utilise a clinic plane based at Kununurra to service patients located closer to the Wyndham airport than Kununurra when Wyndham based planes can reputedly provide the service at less cost?
(2) Are these air services the subject of a tender?
(3) If so, what is the tender reference for the current contract and who was the successful tenderer?
(4) Why are Kununurra based planes used by the RFDS to transport aboriginal patients to and from various medical facilities when Wyndham based planes reputedly can provide the service for less cost due to their closer proximity to certain aboriginal missions?

(1) – (4) Primary health clinics to Kalumburu and Oombulgurri are funded by the Commonwealth Government. Medical practitioners employed by the W.A. Country Health Service, provide medical services for these clinics. Transportation to these clinics is provided under a contract between the Commonwealth Government and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) the details of which the WA State Government is not privy to.
