CANNABIS PSYCHOSIS — CASES
535. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Mental Health:
I refer the minister to recent
British research published in the journal Addictive Behaviours that
failed to identify any association between plant tetrahydrocannabinol—THC—potency
and an elevated risk of psychosis.
(1) How many
cases of cannabis psychosis have been reported here in Western Australia since
March 2021?
(2) Is the minister able to stratify
those numbers by age group?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) There were 1 085
Western Australian public hospital inpatient admissions coded with a mental and
behavioural disorder due to use of cannabinoids between March 2021 and January
2023.
(2) Age group
stratification for these 1 085 cases is as follows—and that information
is set out in a table, so I seek leave to have the table incorporated into Hansard .
