Court security—Regional and remote courts
510. Hon Nick Goiran to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the
letter to the director general from the Commissioner of Police dated 12 December
2024 giving notice of termination of the court security and custodial services
memorandum of understanding.
(1) Will the Attorney General table the
director general's reply?
(2) Noting that the letter indicated that
police would no longer provide court security services in eight locations from 1 February
2025, who provided those services in each location after that date?
(3) Following the Attorney General's
appointment in March 2025, when was this matter first raised with him, by whom
and in what form?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the Leader
of the Opposition for some notice of the question.
(1) No, because in response to the police
commissioner's letter, a meeting was convened between the then Attorney General
and the Minister for Police.
(2) Services continued beyond February,
and funding was allocated in the 2025–26 budget to expand the use of contracted
service providers at three locations. Police auxiliary officers continued to
provide services at the remaining locations.
(3) The Attorney General was briefed
about court security as part of the Department of Justice's incoming government
briefings that were provided following the March 2025 election.
