(1) Has any agency in the Minister's control undertaken, commissioned or received any studies or research reports into the impact of autonomous vehicles: (a) If so, how much did the studies/reports cost, what organisation was it conducted by and what, if any, were the recommendations in relation to the WA transport infrastructure; and (b) If so, will the Minister table the studies/reports: (i) If not, why not? (2) Has the Department for Transport or Main Roads WA undertaken any assessment of the legislative or regulatory restrictions which are in place to prevent autonomous vehicles from operating in WA? (3) Does the government intend on amending legislation to allow for the operation of autonomous vehicles?

Factors affecting travel behaviour choice: Part of an overall research program of which the Department of Transport (DoT) contributes $70,000 annually; Planning and Transport Reasearch Centre (PATREC); No specific recommendations related to both autonomous vehicles and WA transport infrastructure. Draft discussion paper New Mobility – Transport and Land Use Parking Considerations: No consultant costs associated with this study; DoT; No recommendations relating to WA transport infrastructure.

Two external studies are also being conducted in partnership with PATREC and iMove CRC, and the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBENRC). No additional funding was required and the work will be publicly available upon completion of the research.
(2)-(3) Relevant agencies have been working with the Commonwealth and other jurisdictions towards nationally consistent regulation for automated vehicles and to provide certainty for consumers and industry.
