BANKSIA HILL DETENTION
CENTRE — UNIT 18 DETAINEES — OFFENCES
887. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to youth
detainees currently at Banksia Hill Detention Centre and unit 18 of Casuarina
Prison.
(1) Could the
minister please provide a breakdown of the principal charges and offences that
have led youth detainees into custody?
(2) Could the
minister please provide a breakdown of current youth detainees at Banksia Hill
Detention Centre and unit 18 respectively, by principal charge and offence in
(1) for which they are currently facing or currently serving a sentence?

of the question. The following answer is based on information provided to me by
the Minister for Corrective Services. The answer to question (1) is largely in
tabular form so I seek leave to have the response incorporated into Hansard .

than 5, this is to ensure that there is no risk of identifying a detainee.
Where the offence type is listed as 'Inadequate or Unavailable Data' this will
generally be cases where the young person was received under arrest and the
offence data is not recorded, or where the young person has become sentenced,
but the sentencing information has not been finalised.
(2) Because of
the small cohort of detainees at unit 18, this information is not able to be
provided without risk of identifying individuals.
