With regard to Bremer Bay and other regional communities on the SWIS having recently suffered continual and recurrent power failures -
(1) Will the Minister commit the money required to upgrade the infrastructure necessary to provide a metro equivalent service or instruct Western Power to finance such an upgrade?

This is a trial project suited to Bremer Bay because of its location and environmental conditions. The trial will be evaluated for possible implementation elsewhere, but its suitability for other towns may be limited. The Bremer Bay Project is part of a program of capital works and increased maintenance activity that will involve $1.2 billion being expended on the network over five years. There has already been a tripling of maintenance expenditure between 99/00 to 03/04. Were the Greens to support the full electricity reform measures that the Government proposed, even greater capital resources could be directed to the network as the private sector relieved Western Power Corporation of some requirement to invest in new power stations. 2.
