My question is to the minister representing the Minister for Community Safety. I say that because my question was originally addressed to the Leader of the House because it related to a body within the Premier’s office, but somehow it has been directed to the minister representing the Minister for Community Safety. Presumably he has an answer. Hon Nick Griffiths: I have an answer. Hon PETER FOSS: I refer to a Labor Party policy document that reads - As part of Labor’s plan for “Making our Community Safer”, Labor will . . . · establish an Office of Crime Prevention that is directly responsible to the Premier. I am a bit worried about that because I have had to refer this question to the Minister for Community Safety. It continues - Its main objective will be to develop the crime prevention strategy for government as a whole and to be a leading driver in putting this strategy into practice; It also states that the Office of Crime Prevention will “produce information bulletins about Western Australia’s crime statistics, analysis of crime, regional differences and any changing patterns in the State’s crime rate”. (1) Since March 2001 how many information bulletins have been produced and on what dates? (2) Where are these bulletins on crime statistics to be found? (3) Why are they not available on the Office of Crime Prevention web site? (4) Why does the Office of Crime Prevention web site, when mentioning such information, refer to only United Kingdom Home Office and Victorian web sites, in some cases with incorrect hyperlinks? (5) Since March 2001 to date, what analyses of crime have been undertaken? (6) What has the Office of Crime Prevention done to determine the regional differences and when was this work carried out? (7) Does the Office of Crime Prevention have any documentation of its own on the changing patterns in the State’s crime rate? (8) If so, in what year was the research undertaken? (9) Will the minister table a copy of this documentation and identify from which studies, reports or analyses this documentation was derived? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS
