DOPPLER RADAR
1460. Hon NIGEL HALLETT to the Minister
for Agriculture and Food:
(1) What
progress has been made on the installation and construction of the three
Doppler radars at Newdegate, South Doodlakine and Marchagee?
(2) Are the three radars likely to be commissioned by June
2016?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) A
development application for construction of a Doppler radar has been submitted
to the Shire of Lake Grace for the Newdegate site, while a further development
application is being finalised for the South Doodlakine site, which is in the
Shire of Kellerberrin. The Bureau of Meteorology has decided that a site near
Miling is better suited to the meteorological demands of this project than
Marchagee locations and will complete geotechnical analysis in the next week.
(2) The
Doppler radar business plan calls for the construction and commission of one
radar by 30 June 2016, and this milestone is on track to be achieved.
