General representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the October 2012
commitment of the state government to include volunteers in presumptive cancer
coverage.
(1) When will this occur?
(2) Will it require a change to
legislation?
(3) If yes to (2), what legislation?
(4) If no to (2), what are the
impediments, if any, to the immediate implementation of this promise?

On behalf of the Minister for
Emergency Services, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises —
(1) The
government is committed to the introduction of presumptive legislation to
provide compensation for firefighters who suffer certain cancers. The bill is
being progressed.
(2) Yes, this will require changes
to legislation.
(3) Changes will be required to the
Fire and Emergency Services Act 1998 and the Bush Fires Act 1954.
(4) Not applicable.
