INDIAN OCEAN DRIVE, PROJECT DELAY
I refer to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure’s statement that the Indian Ocean Drive project is to be put on hold - (1) Was the Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, as the minister responsible for road safety, consulted about the decision to delay the Indian Ocean Drive project, given that it would have allowed light vehicles to use the route as an alternative to the Brand Highway, which has a heavy traffic load? (2) Does the minister acknowledge that road safety on the Brand Highway should be a priority? (3) Will she table in this House at the earliest opportunity the road accident figures for the Brand Highway over the past five years? Mrs ROBERTS

(1)-(3) If the member had given me notice of the third part - Mr Johnson: Aren’t you supposed to be across that? Mrs ROBERTS: The member should wait. Would he like me to detail every road accident that occurred on the Brand Highway over the past five years? Several members interjected. Mrs ROBERTS: Why do members not wait to hear the answer? I was about to say that I could have provided the statistics referred to in the third part of the question today, if the member had given me some notice. The answer to the first question is no, and the answer to the second question is yes; road safety is a priority for all roads in this State.
