Government—Gas policy
434. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the
Premier's recent claims that we must frack the Kimberley or destroy Scott Reef
to avoid gas shortages in Western Australia.
(1) Can the Premier confirm that WA is
currently the second-largest exporter of LNG in the world?
(2) Can the Premier confirm that 90% of
WA's LNG is exported overseas?
(3) How many times has the Premier or his
staff met with representatives of gas giants Woodside and Chevron this year to
raise concerns about their failure to fulfil their domestic gas obligations?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) I reject the premise of the honourable
member's question. Western Australia's domestic gas reservation policy was
introduced by a Labor government and has been delivering for WA since 2006. The
majority of WA's domestic gas supply is met from LNG projects. All LNG
exporters are expected to meet their domestic gas obligations under the WA
Domestic Gas Policy.
