APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPS —
COMPLETION RATES
762. Hon ED DERMER to the minister representing the Minister
for Training and Workforce Development:
I refer to the completion rate for apprentices and trainees.
(1) Does the department monitor the reasons
for apprentices and trainees voluntarily withdrawing from an apprenticeship or
traineeship; and, if not why not?
(2) If yes to (1), how many apprentices and
trainees withdrew due to bullying or harassment in their workplace; physical
assault in their workplace; the occurrence of an accident in their workplace;
underpayment or inconsistency of payment by their employer; and extended or
unpaid working hours outside the apprenticeship or traineeship agreement?
(3) If no to (1), will the minister
undertake to have more detailed monitoring of withdrawal reasons; and, if not,
why not?

I thank the honourable member for that question.
(1) The department's ApprentiCentre
monitors the reasons for any cancellation of an apprenticeship through a letter
to the employer and apprentice requesting the reasons for the cancellation
based on an established list of responses.
(2) The established list of responses does
not specifically cover the reasons outlined.
(3) In the event of a cancellation,
ApprentiCentre follows up with the employer and apprentice to understand the
reason for the cancellation in more detail and, if necessary, refers the
apprentice to the appropriate authority. ApprentiCentre also provides advice
and assistance to support the apprentice to continue in their training program.
