SOCIAL HOUSING — NORTH BEACH SITE
285. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to today's media
release titled ''Demolition makes way for prime North Beach site
revitalisation''.
(1) How many years has it taken for
the government to finalise the plans to demolish the site?
(2) On what date did the settlement
with the last remaining private property owner occur?
(3) How many
social, affordable and private housing sites are expected to be developed on
the site, and when is construction anticipated to commence?

I
thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been
provided by the Minister for Housing.
(1)–(3) As
has been previously noted, the McGowan government inherited an ageing social
housing portfolio consisting of several dilapidated buildings that were unsafe,
expensive to maintain and not fit for purpose due
to the underspend on maintenance and refurbishments under the previous Liberal–National
government . The North Beach site is an ageing and derelict former public
housing site that is set for demolition to make way for a renewal project to
deliver new housing and improve the quality, affordability, diversity and amenity of housing stock in the suburb.
Settlement on the last remaining property occurred in May 2022. However,
Communities is continuing to work with the remaining tenant and is assisting
them during the relocation process.
