I refer to the findings of the Supported Accommodation Program Evaluation Final Report and noting that the report found that some of the partnerships between non-government organisations and mental health services are not very effective and I ask, what action has been taken to improve the effectiveness of these partnerships?

There are a number of actions that the Mental Health Commission (Commission) are currently initiating to improve the effectiveness of partnerships between non-government organisations and mental health services.
The Collaboration and Service Integration (CSI) reference group has representation from consumers, carers, non-government organisations and mental health services to promote collaboration and partnership initiatives with a focus on holistic recovery practices.
The Commission has tasked the CSI reference group to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) template that can be used between non-government organisations and mental health services. This template will support partnerships and provide a basis for discussion, collaboration and agreed roles between the two parties. It is expected that this template will be available to the sector for use by early 2014.
The Commission has also provided the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) with grant funding to improve access to employment for people with mental health issues through the evidence-based Individual Placement Support (IPS) employment model. While this does not directly relate to the accommodation support providers a large part of this role is providing support and mentoring to non-government organisations and mental health services to work in partnership in order for the model to succeed.
In addition, the recent increases through the State Budget to support long term sustainability of organisations will increase the capacity of the sector to allocate the time necessary to help develop these partnerships.
