QuestionView source ↗

If LAMP Inc do not receive block funding from the Federal Government post 31 December 2014, there will be no specialist mental health service provider in the Lower South West. What action is the State Government taking to ensure people with mental illness living in the Lower South West and not eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, will be able to access support services post 31 December 2014?

The State Government is not in a position to comment on a Commonwealth procurement process and its outcome should not be pre-empted. Commonwealth funding has been extended to a number of organisations two months past their contract end date of 31 December 2014.  The State will continue to maintain significant investment in mental health services in the South West.
In 2014/15, the total budget allocation for WA Country Health Service (WACHS) - South West specialised mental health services, Individualised Community Living Strategy (ICLS) and non-government organisations providing community mental health support in the region is over $27 million.
A summary of this investment is provided below.
1) WACHS provide both inpatient and community specialist mental health services in the South West region including:
a. Bunbury Hospital Inpatient Mental Health Unit.
b. Community Adult Mental Health Services providing clinic based and outreach services with offices based in Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Bridgetown.
c. Older Adult Mental Health Services as a community based service operating in Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Bridgetown.
d. Child and Adolescent Mental Health Community Services as a community service based in Bunbury, Busselton and Bridgetown.
e. The Statewide Specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Service employs 3.5 FTE Aboriginal Health Workers based in Bunbury.
2) ICLS in the South West
The ICLS program currently has a total budget allocation of $759,000 for support packages for people based in the South West region. In Busselton there are four individuals with a home and a support package at a full year cost of $303,542. One individual has a support package at a full year cost of $74,100.
In Bunbury five individuals have a home and a package of support at a full year cost of $251,266. There is one individual with a package of support at $103,449 full year cost.
In 2014/15, the Mental Health Commission will provide funding of $3,815,144 to non-government organisations to support community based mental health services in the South West. Please see tabled papers [...]
