KULUNGA PRESCHOOL - HILTON PRIMARY SCHOOL
I refer to the Kulunga preschool in Hilton. (1) Has the minister consulted Aboriginal parents and children or relevant community members on the proposal to move the early intervention program out of a purpose-built facility into a prefabricated classroom on the Hilton Primary School site; and, if not, why not? (2) Has the early childhood directorate been invited to give an opinion on this move and the impact it will have on the program offered to Aboriginal children and their families; and, if not, why not? (3) Why has the minister allowed this building, which has facilities such as very small toilets for preschoolers, to be adapted for a classroom for difficult-to-manage teenagers or older children who are deemed more easily managed in a special facility? (4) Whose best interest is served by this move - is it the provision of a successful early intervention program for Aboriginal children, or a short-term resolution to the minister’s desire to establish a facility for older children? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH
