Demersal fishing—Commercial ban—West coast
zone
707. Mrs Kirrilee Warr to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Will the Premier guarantee that no fishing family or
small business will be left financially out of pocket because of this ban?

AnswerView source ↗

As the member should
be aware, there are very long practiced, understood mechanisms for compulsory
buyouts of fishing licences. This has occurred elsewhere, and we will undertake
that practice. It is about valuing the licences and paying a fair value for
those licences. That is well understood, and, of course, we will be going
through the usual practice.
