These regulations amend the Animal Welfare (General) Regulations 2003 by updating and adopting various codes of practice relating to animal welfare, including those for cattle, land transport of livestock, saleyards, racing, circuses, exhibited animals, rabbits, rodeos, harness racing, goats, buffalo, deer, pigeons, poultry, sheep and feral animals.
Animal owners, handlers, and industries dealing with animals are affected. They must adhere to the updated codes of practice, particularly regarding animal transport, which now incorporates the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines - Land Transport of Livestock.
