These regulations amend the Environmental Protection Regulations 1987 to prohibit the use of mercury in certain manufacturing processes. It defines key terms related to mercury use and specifies penalties for non-compliance.

Businesses involved in manufacturing processes using mercury or mercury compounds to produce specific chemicals (acetaldehyde, chlor-alkali, polyurethane, potassium/sodium ethylate/methylate, vinyl chloride monomer) are affected. They must cease these processes or face a fine.
