These regulations amend the Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997 and the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996 to introduce mandatory induction and training requirements for local government candidates and council members in Western Australia.
Candidates for local government elections must complete an induction course. Current and future council members must complete a specified training course within 12 months of being elected, unless exempt due to prior qualifications or current term. This aims to improve the knowledge and skills of elected officials.
