These regulations amend the Police Force Regulations 1979 to insert Part VII, which establishes a Custody Notification Service (CNS) for Aboriginal persons and Torres Strait Islanders detained in police custody. It mandates that ALSWA be notified of their detention.

Aboriginal persons and Torres Strait Islanders in police custody will have ALSWA notified of their detention. Police officers will have new notification and record-keeping obligations. ALSWA will be contacted and may provide support.
