These regulations amend the Prisons Regulations 1982 to introduce provisions for the inspection and disclosure of medical records and mandatory testing of blood or other body samples of prisoners in cases where a prison officer may have been exposed to an infectious disease, including COVID-19.
Prison officers are affected by the new procedures for reporting potential exposure to bodily fluids and receiving information about infectious diseases. Prisoners are affected by the mandatory testing requirements. The Department of Justice will need to implement new procedures for handling medical records and testing.
