Regulations31 Oct 2017 p. 5462-431 October 2017
Principal Act
These regulations amend the Road Traffic Code 2000 to introduce rules for drivers passing bicycles, requiring a safe distance of 1m at speeds up to 60km/h and 1.5m at higher speeds. It also specifies conditions under which drivers can cross dividing lines to comply.
Motor vehicle drivers are affected by the new safe passing distance rules when overtaking cyclists. Cyclists benefit from increased safety. Drivers may need to adjust their driving behavior and be aware of the new rules to avoid penalties.
