Tender description
The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) requires the construction of four (4) x five (5) metre, mono-hulled, sail training vessels to match an existing fleet. The vessels are intended for service the Marine Education Boatshed in East Fremantle, operating predominately in the Swan and Canning river as well as Cockburn Sound. Every second year, the vessels are transported by road to Denham in the Shark Bay area and conduct wilderness expeditions. The vessels primary use will be for sail training. Additionally, they will need to be capable of carrying a 6 hp long shaft 4 stroke outboard engine for propulsion. The vessels will be required to operate in isolated areas that are affected by large tides ranging between less than 1.0m and in excess of 5.0m. As a result, the vessels must be easily launched and retrieved at both low and high tides, taking into account the varying terrains of the areas of operation and the conditions that the various tides create; different launch ramp facilities throughout Western Australia The vessels’ predominant function of sail training will require the boat to be ballasted with sub deck lead ballast to a weight of 70kg. The interior will require a centreboard casing to fit the one design aluminium centreboard.
