Summary

DPIRD procured a high-throughput sequencer for pathogen detection and outbreak response, awarded to Illumina Australia Pty Ltd via direct sourcing.

Tender description

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD’s) Diagnostics and Laboratory Services’ (DDLS) South Perth laboratory requires the supply, delivery, installation and system training of one (1) high throughput next generation sequencing system for diagnosis and detection of pathogens in samples submitted to the DDLS animal pathology sections, and genotying of bacterial and viral isolates from disease outbreaks. This sequencer is required due to the recent closure of the South Perth site and the movement of some laboratory services to Cedric Street in Stirling, (Perth, Western Australia). This will bolster DDLS testing and response capacity in the event of a significant disease outbreak such as highly pathogenic avian influenza.
