Tender description
The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) is seeking a suitably qualified supplier to undertake works at the Yampire Gorge Abandoned Mine Site (the Site), located approximately 37 kilometres north-west of Auski Roadhouse along Nanutarra–Munjina Road. The Site comprises multiple abandoned mining features including underground mine shafts, redundant infrastructure, and uncontained tailings from historical mining activities that may still be present, and has raised community concerns regarding the potential downstream movement of tailings within the Fortescue Catchment as well as safety risks due to proximity to active prospecting areas, while also presenting significant logistical challenges due to its remote location, including the absence of facilities such as accommodation, water, power, and sanitation, limited services, and unreliable mobile phone coverage (including Telstra), with site access and entry to be arranged in advance through DMPE.
