The Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Service (AHFCTS) located at FSH offers a state-wide service for cardiac transplantation and advanced heart failure support. One of the treatments provided to this patient cohort is the implantation of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs). VADs are purchased and implanted by the AHFCTS. VADs are electromechanical circulatory products which are used to either partially or completely take over the blood pumping function of the heart. The purchase of VADs and their associated accessories by FSH has historically occurred on an ‘as required’ basis. The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) is now seeking to consolidate the purchase of these items under a formal contract arrangement.
