The minister for environment made the eighty mile beach marine park (classified waters) notice 2017 under section 62(1a) of the act. Waters are classified as recreation, general use, sanctuary, and special purpose areas. Aquaculture, commercial fishing, recreational fishing, pearling, and petroleum/geothermal activities are declared incompatible with conservation purposes in certain special purpose areas.
