Pursuant to Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, owners/occupiers of land in the Shire of Ashburton are required to clear firebreaks and reduce fuel load by October 1, 2017, and maintain them clear of flammable material from October 1 to April 30, 2018. Details vary for land in and outside townsites. Alternative arrangements can be requested by September 30, 2017. Penalty for non-compliance is a $1000 fine.
