Issued by the Chief Health Officer, with the approval of the Minister for Health, under Section 32A (1) of the Human Tissue and Transplant Act 1982. This code is to be read in conjunction with the Principles set out in Schedule 1 and the Guidelines set out in Schedule 2. The principles and guidelines are based on the “The National Code of Ethical Autopsy Practice” endorsed by Health Ministers in April 2002 as reflecting “best practice” in post-mortem examinations.
