Pursuant to Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, owners/occupiers of land in the Shire of Ashburton are required to clear firebreaks and reduce fuel load by October 1, 2018, and maintain them until April 30, 2019. Details vary for land inside and outside townsites. Alternative arrangements can be requested by September 30, 2018. Penalty for non-compliance is a $5000 fine.
