Sets new exposure standards for respirable crystalline silica and respirable coal dust in mining operations.

I, william johnston mla, minister for mines and petroleum, on advice from the mining industry advisory committee, hereby determine that the eight-hour time weighted average, being the average of a particular substance permitted over an eight hour working day and five day working week, for— 1. respirable crystalline silica is 0.05 milligrams per cubic metre (mg/m3) to take effect on the date of gazettal of this instrument of determination; and 2. respirable coal dust is 1.5 mg/m3 to take effect 12 months from the date of gazettal of this instrument of determination; and applies to all mining operations.
