Pursuant to Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, owners/occupiers of land in the City of Melville must clear flammable matter by November 15, 2017, or within 14 days of becoming the owner/occupier, and maintain it until April 30, 2018. Specific requirements apply based on land size and zoning. Exemptions can be applied for by October 31, 2017. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to $5,000 and liability for the cost of the work.
