Requires landowners to clear firebreaks and reduce fuel loads to prevent bushfires.

Pursuant to Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, owners/occupiers are required to clear and maintain mineral earth breaks and reduce fuel load on their land by January 1st, or within 14 days of becoming the owner/occupier. Land in town sites requires flammable material reduction. Land outside town sites requires 5-metre-wide mineral earth breaks. Penalties for non-compliance include a $250 infringement notice or prosecution with a penalty up to $5,000. Applications for variations are to be submitted by August 30th each year.
