To prevent bush fires, owners/occupiers in the City of Nedlands must clear inflammable matter by November 30 each year, maintaining it until March 31. Residential land: grass must be no greater than 5cm. Other land: clear 3m inside boundaries, trim trees to 3.5m clearance. Non-compliance incurs a $5,000 penalty. Alternative measures require written permission by November 19. Burning garden refuse is prohibited, penalty of $3,000.
