Attempted Suicide Definition Order — Mental Health Act 2014
Defines attempted suicide under section 525(e) of the Mental Health Act 2014.
Notice Text
Made by the chief psychiatrist under section 525(e) of the Mental Health Act 2014; attempted suicide, which is— • an incident involving deliberate self‐inflicted bodily injury with the intention of ending the person’s life; and • an incident which is considered a near miss where the incident may have, but did not cause harm, either by chance or through timely intervention, including but not limited to self‐ poisoning, overdose, hanging. Attempted suicide does not include suicidal ideation which the person has not acted upon.
